Uttar Pradesh regularly experiences power crises because demand for electricity frequently exceeds supply significantly. Over the last 20 years power shortage has remained within the range of 10-15%, while shortages in periods of peak demand reaches at even higher levels. The majority of power generated in Uttar Pradesh is reliant on coal, while the limited availability and high prices of coal have aggravated the precarious power situation in UP. Hence, there is an obvious need to develop alternate sources of energy. Uttar Pradesh's need to increase energy provision for its population and fast-growing economy poses a formidable challenge which is perceived as both a great opportunity as well as a necessity for the state to increase the share of renewable in the overall energy mix. At the same time there is a need to provide energy access to rural areas and reduce import dependence on fossil fuels. UP's approach is to meet its energy needs in a responsible, sustainable and Eco-friendly manner.
Energy demand has been increasing steadily along with the development of the state. In view of limited conventional energy sources and their limited exploitation and increasing environmental pollution production of energy based on new and renewable energy sources and are being given high priority and promotion. There is a high urgency to convert industrial and non-industrial waste into energy though modern technologies, promotion of bio-energy, poultry waste utilization and energy conversion, revamping ethanol production, this all may be done with the collective efforts of all stake-holder, therefore Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with Department of Additional Sources of Energy, Government of Uttar Pradesh is organizing a day-long Conference & Expo-2025 at Indira Gandhi Prathisthan , Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, UP.
