Seminar on FARM MACHINERY 2018 will be jointly organised by the Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development and Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research
CARD is an autonomous body, registered under the Societies Act 1860, and is engaged in knowledge based activities in agriculture and sustainable rural development throughout the country in collaboration with the industry, various Central Ministries and State Governments since the year 2000.
The Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research (IISR), Lucknow was established in 1952 by the erstwhile Indian Central Sugarcane Committee for conducting researches on fundamental and applied aspects of sugarcane culture as well as to co-ordinate the research work done on this crop in different States of the country. The Government of India took over the Institute from the Indian Central Sugarcane Committee on 1st January, 1954. On April 1, 1969, it was transferred to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi alongwith other central agricultural research institutes
Agriculture and farming equipment comprises an expansive variety of machinery and tools that help carry out a number of processes to upgrade the quality and quantity of production. The adoption of machinery has brought tremendous changes, and the advantages include saving time, reduction in labor costs, and appropriate use of inputs to obtain desired output. Moreover, with the growth of government subsidies in Indian and developing countries for farm machineries, the agriculture and farm machinery market is expected to witness significant expansion. The growing world population and upwards rise in food chain will further spur the demand for agricultural products, which will increase the demand for intensive and mechanized agriculture. The global farm equipment market, valued at US$ 144.10 Bn in 2014, is expected to witness growth at a CAGR of 8.7% from 2015 to 2022.
Growing awareness regarding the importance of technology in agriculture for the maximization of output is aiding the growth of the market. The incorporation of monitoring systems, GPS systems, and self-driven mechanisms allows the precise use of material and increases fuel economy as well. India has witnessed an increasing adoption of farm machines owing to the change in population dynamics and agriculture. Indian tractor and farm machinery market valued at $ 6 billion is growing @ 8-10% CAGR and will reach USD 10 billion by 2025.
In the last two decades, the large rural population has migrated towards cities, land-holding become smaller, rural youth unwilling to engage in agriculture, pressure to increase productivity, uneven distribution of rain, drought and climate changes have created huge potential for Farm Mechanization in the country. Uttar Pradesh already having more than 78% farmers are marginal farmers, who are not able to buy machinery. In that case, there is a need to promote Custom Hiring Centers in the State, so that, the latest technology, latest machinery could be available to the farmers on rent.
In the recent years, large number of agriculture graduates have started to setup custom hiring centres in the State, which need to be recognize and support to be given for further strengthening and expansion. In this context, Centre for Agriculture & Rural Development jointly with Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research would be organizing a daylong Seminar on Farm Machinery Entrepreneurship-2018 on 26th September-2018 at Indian Institute for Sugarcane Research, Telibagh, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The proposed Seminar on Farm Machinery Entrepreneurship 2018 comprises following specific objectives:
The Centre for Agriculture & Rural Development(CARD) would provide one year hand-holding support to Farm Machinery entreprenuers for the following work.
